The Slider Block is a fan favourite - is provides the ability to create a set of images that cycle from one to the next, with a choice of transition animations. It can also be referred to as 'Banners', or 'Image Carousel'. Up to 5 images are supported per Slider Block, and each individual Slide (image) can be given alt text, a link which will send the user to a URL of your choice when clicked, and even an overlay.
Creating a Slider Block and adding Images
To add a slider block, click to open the Add Unit panel as described in our Pages Overview article, and select the Slider block which will load a fresh yet empty Slider block into the page. You'll see the left hand sidebar now show the settings for this new Slider Block. Scroll down down the Slider Block settings and you'll see five empty slots for your images - with a blue 'Upload image' at the bottom.
Click the 'Upload image' button and proceed to select your desired images, at which point they will be uploaded and shown within the list of thumbnails on just above. Now, scroll down a little further and select a Banner Transition from the list (with Fade being the default). Finally, be sure to 'Save changes', and then preview your page within your Shop to see it in action!
Working with an individual Slide (image)
As mentioned, you have a few options that can be configured for each individual image of your Slider. To access the settings for a particular image, simply hover over it's thumbnail within the Sidebar Block settings, and click the 'settings icon' in the top right corner. This will load the settings for that image below the list of thumbnails, as highlighted in the screenshot below:
After having clicked the 'settings icon' for the Image you'd like to configure, you'll be presented with the options as shown on the left. This includes:
Slide links to - Where you would like the customer to be taken to when the Slide is clicked.
Slide image Alt - The Alt text for the Slide, which helps with SEO and browsers which do not display images (such as screen readers for example).
Overlay - These options allow you to add an Overlay to a particular Slide, which includes an overlay colour, and optionally overlay text and an overlay button.
